BLT is very happy to announce that it received a grant from the City of Burien, through the City of Burien Arts Commission. The Burien Arts Commission had $25,000 to give. (That is the full amount provided by the City of Burien for all arts and cultural grants per year.) The Burien Arts Commission had requests for grants from 11 organizations. Those requests totaled $53,000.
In light of those numbers, BLT is very happy to be awarded $2,500 to offset the costs of the production of “reasons to be pretty.” (Tickets for “reasons to be pretty” are on sale online.) BLT also commends the Burien Arts Commission for making what could only have been very difficult choices between the many competing requests.
BLT is very pleased with this grant, and thanks the Burien Arts Commission. But this grant is a very small portion of BLT’s expenses. For example, the City of Burien, through the Burien Parks Department, raised BLT’s rent by $100 per month this year. Almost half of the Art’s Commission grant is devoured by the City’s rent increase alone. That is not to mention all of the other costs that have gone up. BLT has done all it can to keep better live theater affordable. For example, BLT has not raised ticket prices in three years. How can BLT do this?
BLT relies upon the kindness of strangers (and its friends). It should be clear that individual donors, like you, are what make better live theater possible. The end of the year is approaching, but there is still time to make a tax deductible gift to BLT. It does not have to match the $2,500 from the City of Burien. Just give what you can and sit back and enjoy more better live theater.
