The third show of the season

BAT’s 37th season is well underway, at least it is in rehearsals. A few thoughts:

The forth show of the season will be the Bill and Peggy Hunt Playwrights Festival -tickets- BAT’s every-odd-year Statewide playwrighting contest. BAT will produce the two best one-acts and the two best full-length plays submitted to BAT.

The first two plays, The Toxic Avenger -tickets- and The Ultimate Christmas Show (abridged) -tickets- are plays BAT has been trying to get the rights to for a few years. When the shows became available, it was a no brainier to put them in the season.

But what about the third show of the year, Sex with Strangers? -tickets- Admittedly, it was the last show selected this season. BAT read a number of shows for theScreenshot 8:15:16, 9:27 PM slot. None were right. Then we read Sex with Strangers. It was an instant hit, and it completed the season in the very best way.

Sex with Strangers has two actors and two locations. It is a provocative look at the complexities of relationship, sex and identity. All the twists of the digital age meet love.

Olivia is a talented old-school writer whose career never took off. Ethan is wildly successful, a young author whose blogging of his “sexcapades” are the buzz of the blogosphere. When they find themselves snowed into a cabin together, undeniable chemistry ignites. It is a darkly funny love story for our age. It is just right for BAT’s third show of the season.
