Why not all G rated?

The Toxic Avenger may sound like a kids’ show, but it is not. BAT put a warning on the Bat-logo-final-colorshow that it is not suitable for those under 13 years of age. Funny, yes. Very funny, yes. In fact, it is the funniest thing to come out of a toxic waste dump, ever. But not a kids’ show.

Most of the productions at BAT are not G rated. (Although some are, The Addams Family Musical is a good example.) Why not all G rated?

Toxic Tech

Toxic Tech

Today is the day BAT has waited for all Summer. Today is the first full day of tech for The Toxic Avenger!!!

So why is today so spacial?toxic-web

All Summer BAT has been doing things to get Toxie ready for you. From the early meetings with the creative team, to auditions, to searching for that hard to find prop.

BAT, typically, does one musical a year. BAT likes to do it in the Fall because that gives BAT’s creative team more time to work on it.

Today, BAT started at 9 am with dry tech. That is where the director, stage manager, sound and light designers get together over coffee and tea and decided where all of the cues they have been working on for weeks go in the show. (They may also may find a cue that slipped through until this point.) The stage manager writes all of cues in her script, so she can call the show later.

While most of the creative team is at dry tech, the band shows up and sets up on the platform upstage. For Toxie, the band is five pieces. Boy are they tight.
